Description
The character is a Tang Dynasty monk named XuanZang. He was known for the 15 year long pilgrimage to India. He was also the main inspiration for the famous Chinese novel "Journey to the West".Done in Photoshop

The character design is tops, I really like the detail in the backpack-umbrella and the lantern. Your little details make him more appealing.
BUT my favorite part may seem insignificant, but the way he is holding his beads pretty much wraps up his devotion to his faith in that one little pose of the arm.
As for execution, they water running on the rocks is superb. Your lighting is awsome too, only I imagine candle lanterns with a more orange/yellow glow than white-yellow.
